Dealing With Stomach Ulcer

Stomach ulcer, otherwise known as peptic ulcer
is simply an erosion or ulceration of the lining of either the stomach (gastric ulcer)or duodenum (duodenal ulcer).

THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF STOMACH ULCERS INCLUDE

a) Pain in the upper abdomen during meals (in the case of gastric ulcer) and about 3 hours after meals (in the case of duodenal ulcer).

b) Loss of appetite.

c) Unintentional weight loss.

d) Belching, bloating, and abdominal fullness.

e) Nausea and vomiting. Belching, bloating, and abdominal fullness.

f) Nausea and vomiting.

The true root causes of stomach ulcers include:

a) Helicopter pylori infection, found in about 70% of gastric ulcers and

in about 90% of duodenal ulcers.

b) Long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including ibuprofen and aspirin.

c) An increased production of the hormone gastrin, which leads to a corresponding increase in hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes. Note that high levels of stomach acid may cause stomach and intestine ulcers.

 d) Stomach cancer.

FOODS AND LIFESTYLE TO AVOID

i) Lose weight if you are overweight. Excess weight causes ulcer because the fat cells produce inflammatory particles that inflame the cells lining the stomach and intestine.

ii) Stop smoking.

iii) Avoid foods that cause inflammation like alcohol, carbonated drinks, refined carbohydrates, commercially processed meat, caffeine-containing food products ( like cola, tea, regular and decaffeinated coffee, energy drinks, and caffeine-containing drugs ), acidic forming foods, fried foods, salty foods, spicy foods, and refined sugar.

iv) Do not eat hard and rough foods like raw cabbage and raw carrot. It is better to steam them before you eat.

v) High protein and calcium foods like meat, fish, and milk should not be taken on an empty stomach. They increase stomach acid production.

(vi) Be sure there is no period of feeling hungry. Do not skip meals or wait long hours before your meals.

vii) Do not overeat.

viii) Avoid wheat and dairy based products. Milk or dairy will temporarily reduce stomach acid, but this will be followed by a rebound increase.

ix) Avoid or limit foods with high dietary acid load like tomato, orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, white rice, etc.

(x) Avoid or limit foods with high dietary acid load like tomato, orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, white rice, etc.

(xi) Avoid very cold or very hot food and drinks.

(xii) Stop using artificial spices ( like stock cubes or chicken soup ). They can irritate the lining of your stomach and intestine.

(xiii) Avoid pepper and peppery food. Most of the time, pepper free diet is advised.

(xiv) Do not lay down immediately after eating.

So before you complain that any medication is not working for you or you have treated ulcer for many years kindly ask your self if your Lifestyles is actually okay, go through to know what to avoid.🧏🏽‍♀🧏🏽‍♀

Lastly, let me advise you that a proper diagnosis of the stomach is important. Do not self-diagnose or self-medicate because ypu may end up treating something that's not an ulcer!
